Dear Brothers and Sisters,

If you are in the area for a period of time or just traveling through, we invite you to join us at Immaculate Conception Church here in the beautiful town of New Oxford.  Our church is located at 106 Carlisle Street.  If you are on route 30 heading towards Gettysburg the church is located one block after the first exit off the traffic circle.  In the event you are heading towards York on route 30, it is the third exit off the traffic circle.  

When you arrive we do have a parking lot on the corner of Carlisle Street and Golden Lane across the street from the church.  Note:  Eventually, as part of the agreement with the new owner of the property of 5 Carlisle Street with whom we split the cost of our parking lot expansion, six parking spots will be reserved for the tenants of the building.  There is also parking behind the church and the parish activity center.  If both lots are full then there is street parking.  On the weekend for Mass we open only the center front doors and the ramp door in between the church and the rectory.  If you want to make a visit to the church during the week (outside of Mass times), we ask that you park in the lot behind the church because we only open the ramp door.

Immaculate Conception Church, like many older buildings, was built during a time when no one thought about accessibility.  Over the years we have strived to make our buildings more accessible to those with mobility issues.  Unfortunately, there are still some challenges.  Our church has 6 handicap spaces at the back of the church.  In the event they become full, individuals can use that area as a drop-off point for those who need it.  

Our ADA entrance is between the church and the rectory.  Just walk up the covered sidewalk between the two buildings.

La Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción, como muchos edificios antiguos, se construyó en una época en la que nadie pensaba en la accesibilidad. A lo largo de los años, nos hemos esforzado por hacer que nuestros edificios sean más accesibles para las personas con problemas de movilidad. Desafortunadamente, todavía hay algunos desafíos. ADA/Weekday Main Entrance...during the week when Mass is not being said this is the ONLY entrance to the church that is open.  We ask individuals to please enter and exit (unless there is an emergency) through these doors.

Is there a crying room at Immaculate Conception Church?

No.  Families with children are welcome inside the church.  We need to see young families inside the church.  Young families give us hope!  However, if parents need a place to calm their child, they are welcome to use the center vestibule.  

Where is the bathroom located?  

The church was built in a time when there were no public bathrooms.  Over the years a bathroom was placed in the church.  It is in the main vestibule.  When entering the center doors, it is located over to the left.  If entering the ADA door, just enter the center vestibule and it will be over to the right.  We are currently studying ways to find ways to make more room inside that small space.

No. Las familias con niños son bienvenidas dentro de la iglesia. Necesitamos ver familias jóvenes dentro de la iglesia. ¡Las familias jóvenes nos dan esperanza! Sin embargo, si los padres necesitan un lugar para calmar a su hijo, pueden usar el vestíbulo del centro.

La iglesia fue construida en una época en que no había baños públicos. Con los años se colocó un baño en la iglesia. Está en el vestíbulo principal. Al entrar por las puertas del centro, se encuentra a la izquierda. Si ingresa por la puerta ADA, simplemente ingrese al vestíbulo central y estará a la derecha. Is there hearing assisted devices?

Yes, Immaculate Conception Church does have four hearing devices for those who have trouble hearing.  They are in the priest sacristy.  If you need one, please see an usher.  

Where are the ADA pews located?  

When Father Carroll arrived in October of 2020, he was looking for ways to make the church building more accessible to individuals with various needs.  The church provided seating for individuals up front.  However, with the entrance located towards the back, it was realized not everyone with mobility issues can come forward.  In 2022, a group of volunteers came together to address the issue.  Two pews towards the back and the frontals of the front pews were removed.  This allowed us to space things out to give more options.

The frontal to this pew was removed and the pew moved up a few inches.  This provides seating for individuals unable to stand, but allows them to see the sanctuary.

With the front pews moved forward...both pews behind them on either side are designated as ADA pews.

There is a cut out on both sides of the front pews.  While I am sure they were cut to make it easier to turn a casket at a funeral, they can also serve as two spaces for wheelchairs upfront.

The last pew on the Holy Family side of the church is designated as an ADA pew.  When we removed the next to last pew, the last pew was moved up about a foot to give more walking space in the back.  In addition, the space behind the pew can be used for wheelchairs.  This makes a space for individuals with mobility issues that is more conveniently located to the ADA door and the restroom of the church.

NOTE ABOUT COMMUNION:  Father or one of the extraordinary ministers will be bringing Holy Communion to these areas.  If you are seated in one of the ADA pews, please stay in your place.  

When is the Church open for private prayer?

Our church is open for private prayer during the following times...

Sunday:  7:30 am - 6 pm
Monday:  7 am - 6 pm
Tuesday:  7 am - 7 pm
Wednesday:  7 am - 7 pm
Thursday:  7 am - 6 pm
Friday:  7 am - 6 pm
Saturday:  8 am - 5:30 pm

As noted above, during the week outside of times for Mass, the ONLY door that is open is the ADA accessible door.  So, if you are coming for confessions, that door is the ONLY one open.  

Where is the Parish Office located and what are the hours?

The parish office is in the Parish Activity Center at 101 N. Peters Street.  This building also houses our parish thrift shop.  Visitors to the office and the thrift shop are asked to come inside one from Peters Street.  Once inside door one the office is located to the right.  Please ring the doorbell before entering the door to let us know you are there.
