Main Altar: Where the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ.
Baptimsal Font: Where adults and children are baptized.
Tabernacle: Where the Body of Christ is reserved.
Credence Table: Where the cruets of water and wine and extra chalices and ciboriums are placed before the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
Presiders Chair/Assistant Chair: Where the presider and his assistant (deacon or server) sits during Mass.
Ambo/Pulpit: Where the Word of God is proclaimed during the Liturgy of the Word.
Lectionary: Book containing the scripture readings proclaimed at Mass.
Missal Stand: Placed on the altar to hold the Roman Missal during the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
Cruets: Vessels that contain the water and wine.
Paten: Latin phrase for plate. Where the host is placed during Mass.
Chalice: Latin phrase for cup. Where the wine is poured for the consecration during the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
Common Chalice: Used to distribute the Precious Blood to the faithful.
Purificatior: Used to purify the chalices.
Corporal: Placed on the altar. This is where the Sacred Vessels are placed for the consecration. When folded and opened it looks like a square.
Burse and Chalice Veil: The burse is where the corporal is placed before the preparation of the altar. The chalice veil covers the chalice before and after the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
Chalice Pall: The square cover that covers the chalice during the Liturgy of the Eucharist that protects the contents of the chalice from dirt, dust, and insects.
Funeral Pall: Used to cover the casket during a funeral liturgy.
Alb: The outer white garment worn by the Altar Server, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Deacon, and Priest:
Cincture: Belt like rope that is worn around the waist.
Stole: The vestment worn by the deacon and priest underneath their vestments. It represents the authority of their respective offices.
Chasuable: The outer vestment of the priest. It represents charity. The outer vestment of a deacon is called a dalmatic.
Roman Missal: The book that contains all the prayers for the Mass. There is a smaller book that the servers hold which is called Excerpts from the Roman Missal that contains the prayers necessary for the Opening Rites and Closing Rite.
Roman Ritual Books: Contain the prayers necessary for the Rite of Baptism, Rite of Christian Initation, and Order of Christian Funerals.
Offertory Table: Where the cruet of wine and ciborium are placed before Mass to be brought up during the presentation of the gifts.
Paschal Candle: Represents the light of Christ. Blessed at the Easter Vigil and lit throughout the Easter Season until Pentecost. It is also lit at baptisms and funerals.
Sanctuary Lamp: Candle that is lit in the Church when the Blessed Sacrament is present in the tabernacle.
Holy Water Fonts: Is where Holy Water is poured for you to dip your fingers and bless yourself with the sign of cross when entering and leaving Church.
Holy Water Container: Where parishioners can get Holy Water for their personal use at home.
Processional Candle: Carried by the altar server during processions.
Processional Crucifix: Carried by the altar server during processions.
Confessional: Room located in the back of Church where the Sacrament of Reconcilation is held.
Candle Lighter with Bell Snuffer: Used to light and extinquish the candles.
Wax Lighting Tappers: Placed in the candle lighter to assist with lighting the candles.
Thurible and Boat: The thurible holds the lighted charcoal and the boat holds the incense.
Self Light Charcoal: Is lit and placed in the thurible when incesne is used during benediction and Mass.
Incense: Is poured on top of the hot charcoal and produces the rising smoke and perfume smell.
Ambry: The place in the sancturary where the Holy Oils blessed by the Bishop at the Chrism Mass are stored.
Holy Water Bucket and Sprinkler: Used to bless religious items and people through the year.
Ciborium: Where the hosts needed for Mass are placed for consecration.
Burse and Pyx: The burse is the container that holds the pyx. The pyx is the sacred vessel that the Blessed Sacrament is carried in when taken to the homebound.
Handbell: Rung by the servers at the calling down of the Spirit and the elevation of the Body and Blood of Christ at the consecration.
Cope: Outer vestment worn by the priest for benediction, processions and liturgical services outside
Humeral Veil: Placed over the shoulders of the deacon and priest for benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.
The Priest/Work Sacristy: Location where the priest, sacristan/emhc, servers gather before Mass. Is where the albs and sacred vessels is kept.
Lavabo Bowl & Lavabo Towel: The lavabo bowl is used when the priest is washing his hands to catch the water when poured. The lavabo towl is used to dry his fingers after his hand is washed.
Ablution Cup and Towel: The ablution cup is a covered dish filled with water located by the tabernacle and on the credence table for the deacon/priest/extraordinary minister of Holy Communion to purify their fingers after distribution Holy Communion
Pews: Seats in the body of the Church where the congregation sits during services
Advent Wreath: A wreathe with four candles that help us during advent to prepare us for the birth of Christ.
Votive Candles: Located in the back of Church. Candles can be lit at any point during the day.
Choir Loft: Located in the back of Church where the liturgical musicans (cantors and muscians) carry out their ministry.
