REQUIREMENTS Guidelines for Godparents/Confirmation Sponsors
In deciding on a Godparent, parents have a serious responsibility to choose well; it is a decision requiring much thought, prayer and discussion. When parents have decided, it is appropriate that you tell the Godparent-to-be what led you to your decision. There is a great honor involved, but also a great responsibility. You are looking for:
1. A mature member of the Catholic Church at least 16 years of age.
2. A Catholic who has received the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and attends Mass on a regular basis and receives the Eucharist frequently (monthly).
3. If married, a person who is validly married according to the laws of the Catholic Church.
4. A person who can share with you the task of handing on the Catholic Faith.
5. And as well, you may choose a baptized person who belongs to a non-Catholic community only in company with a Catholic sponsor, then only to act as a witness to the baptism – not a Godparent.
Catholic Godparents from outside of Immaculate Conception Church must get a sponsor letter from the parish in which they are registered. This must be in the office one week prior to the Baptism.
Congratulations on being asked to be a godparent. It is a tremendous honor and comes with a great responsibility. If you are a parishioner attending a baptism here at the parish there is no need to have a form. We do ask that you either call the parish office or fill out the form below to attest that you are attending Mass regularly. If the baptism is outside the parish, please provide us the parish information of where the baptism is taking place so that we can send it out.
Please note, if you are not attending Mass regularly or not married validly in the Church, we invite you to call and set up an appointment with Father. This meeting is an invitational meeting to invite the one asked to be a godparent to recommit to their faith. While it might not be possible for you to be listed as the official godparent (more likely for marriage issues) in time for the baptism, we would like to work with you to help you reenter the practice of the faith so that you can be a godparent in the future, but also help you to serve as a spiritual role model for the baptized child as they continue to grow.

Al decidirse por un Padrino, los padres tienen la seria responsabilidad de elegir bien; es una decisión que requiere mucha reflexión, oración y discusión. Cuando los padres hayan decidido, es apropiado que le digas al futuro padrino qué te llevó a tomar esa decisión. Hay un gran honor involucrado, pero también una gran responsabilidad. Estás buscando:
1. Un miembro maduro de la Iglesia Católica de al menos 16 años de edad.

FORMULARIO DE SOLICITUD DE PADRINOS

It is important for the confirmation sponsor or godparent to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation and be married validly in the Church. The reason for posting this information is to extend an invitation to those who might not be practicing the faith or married invalidly in the Church to consider the invitation to draw closer to the Lord, especially if you know in the future that you might be asked to be a confirmation sponsor or godparent.
Of course, we don’t want you to do this simply to be confirmation sponsor or godparent, but because we want to help you grow in your relationship with Jesus and to be the best possible role model of the faith to the child. Being a confirmation sponsor or godparent is NOT about popularity but serves an important role in the child’s faith development. UNA NOTA SOBRE LOS PADRINONES Y MADRILEÑOS DE CONFIRMACIÓN
Esperamos que sobre el formulario se encuentren los requisitos para padrinos y madrinas de confirmación. Es importante que la madrina o padrino de confirmación asista a misa los domingos y días de precepto y esté casada válidamente por la Iglesia. El motivo de esta información es invitar a quienes no practican la fe o tienen un matrimonio inválido por la Iglesia a que consideren la invitación para acercarse al Señor, especialmente si saben que en el futuro podrían ser invitados a ser madrina o padrino de confirmación.
Claro que no queremos que hagas esto solo para ser padrino o madrina de confirmación, sino porque queremos ayudarte a crecer en tu relación con Jesús y a ser el mejor ejemplo de fe para el niño. Ser padrino o madrina de confirmación NO se trata de popularidad, sino de un papel importante en el desarrollo de la fe del niño.
