Confirmation Preparation
For those students who are enrolled in the Religious Education program to ultimately receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, please remember that sacramental preparation is a two-year process.
Students must register in their 7th grade year and in their following 8th grade year if the student wishes to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in their 8th grade year.
Students preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation are asked to perform service hours for the Church, the community and to spend time in personal devotion with the Lord. Additionally, students are asked to "take on" a Saint's name - a Saint in which the student admires and feels he/she can emulate the Saint's qualities and philosophies of the Catholic Faith.
Students are required to write an essay on the Patron Saint's Name that he/she has chosen. Students are also asked to write a letter to the Pastor of Immaculate Conception Church and a letter to the Bishop of Harrisburg explaining how they have been preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation and why they believe they should receive the final Sacrament of Initiation into the Church.
Students are asked to select an individual who is in good Catholic standing to serve as their sponsor for the Sacrament of Confirmation. The sponsor will need to complete a Sponsor Certificate Form and receive a stamped seal from the sponsor's registered parish, granting approval of the specific individual to serve as a Sacrament of Confirmation sponsor.
Students/potential sponsors are welcome to view the documents below to help them develop of sense of their upcoming expectations and responsibilities.
